Under Hadrian (CE 117-161) a palisade and ditch (the Pfahl) was built to front the towers and the patrol way from the Rhine to the Main at Gross-Krotzenburg and from the Main at Wörth to the Neckar at Wimpfen. Some forts were enlarged, new formations of light troops numeri were added to the frontier defenses and the auxiliary formations, posted untill now behind the limes, were advanced to posts on the frontier line.

A military diploma of CE 134 gives the units and their stations. These changes confirmed the static nature of the frontier.
