Dover, the name "Dubris" deriving
from the British base
*Dubras the old plural of
dubro
"water". Thus the name means "the waters". Two small streams crossed the beach at Dover. The name became
Dofras in Old
English and the stream at Dover (now the Dour) became
Doferware broc.
The Notitia Dignitatum records that the commander of the Tungrecensian troops was stationed at Dubris.
