Dover, the name "Dubris" deriving from the British base *Dubras the old plural of dubro "water". Thus the name means "the waters". Two small streams crossed the beach at Dover. The name became Dofras in Old English and the stream at Dover (now the Dour) became Doferware broc.

The Notitia Dignitatum records that the commander of the Tungrecensian troops was stationed at Dubris.
